
Renewing Your Texas Real Estate Sales Agent License
At EG Realty, we want to make sure our agents stay up-to-date and fully licensed. Here’s a simple breakdown of what you need to know when it’s time to renew your Texas Real Estate Sales Agent License through the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC).
Continuing Education (CE) Requirements
To renew, you’ll need to complete 18 hours of CE every two years, including:
4 hours – Legal Update I
4 hours – Legal Update II
3 hours – Contracts-related course
7 hours – Electives
Renewal Options
Renew Online
Log in to TREC’s Online Services
Confirm CE credits (or choose the deferral option)
Pay the renewal fee
Renew by Mail
Complete the official Renewal Form for Real Estate Sales Agents
Make sure CE is finished at least 10 days early
Send the form with payment to TREC
Renewal Timeline
TREC sends renewal notices about 90 days before expiration.
CE should be completed at least 10 days before your license expires to allow processing time.
If You Miss the CE Deadline
Pay a $200 CE Deferral Fee
Stay active for 60 days while you finish
If CE isn’t finished within 60 days, your license will switch to inactive
Inactive Renewal
You can also choose to renew inactive (no CE required), but you cannot practice real estate until reactivated.
